Virginia Heyerdahl, editor of the Friends of Hitty Newsletter, took Hitty Preble on several excursions, and sends the following photos:
Hitty Preble in the hand of the sculpture The Awakening by Phillip Johnson, in the Haines Point Park in Washington, DC. It’s a giant coming out of the ground, and all you can see are his huge hands, head, and parts of his legs — nothing of his torso. It’s quite an exciting place for children to see. |

Virginia says, “…you will probably recognize her outside the “gates of Graceland” in Memphis. She did visit there, but I bought a big postcard and posed her there!” |
Hitty at Mount Vernon, Virginia, on the gate in front of George & Martha Washington’s house. |
Hitty at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, posing with a statue of the famous Shawnee war chief, Tecumseh. |
